From January 21 to 23, 2024, the 8th China-Japan-Korea Doctoral Student Energy Science and Technology Symposium was held at the Pingfeng Campus of Zhejiang University of Technology. Professor Gao Xiang, academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and president of Zhejiang University of Technology, attended the meeting, and nearly 100 experts, scholars and doctoral students in the field of energy science and technology from Kyoto University in Japan, Asia University in South Korea, Zhejiang University and Zhejiang University of Technology attended the meeting. The conference was co-sponsored by Zhejiang University and Zhejiang University of Technology. Leaders from the School of Energy Engineering, the Graduate School of Zhejiang University of Technology, the International Office, the School of Mechanical Engineering, the Institute of Energy and Sustainable Development and other relevant units attended the opening ceremony.
At the opening ceremony, Academician Gao Xiang delivered a speech on behalf of the organizers, expressed his sincere welcome to the guests and representatives, highly praised the long-term joint efforts of the relevant teams of the four universities to promote the development of energy science and technology, and wished the academic achievements of the seminar a complete success. In addition, on behalf of the organizing committee, he presented the Outstanding Contribution Award to Professor Keiichi Ishihara of Kyoto University and Professor Kihong Kim of Ajou University in recognition of their long-term support and outstanding contributions to the symposium. Prof. Keiichi Ishihara, Former Dean of the School of Energy Science, Kyoto University, and Prof. Takashi Morii, Director of the Institute of Advanced Energy, Prof. Hye-Young Jang, Dean of the Institute of Energy Systems, Ajou University, South Korea, Chen Hao, Secretary of the Party Committee and Prof. Yu Zitao, Vice Dean of the School of Energy Engineering, Zhejiang University, Professor Zhang Shihan, Executive Dean of the Institute of Energy and Sustainable Development of Zhejiang University of Technology, introduced the overview of their respective universities and the research progress in the field of energy, and they unanimously emphasized that we should continue to strengthen inter-university cooperation and exchanges, jointly cultivate innovative talents, and promote the progress of energy science and technology. The opening ceremony was presided over by Professor Yu Zitao of Zhejiang University.
The seminar consisted of oral presentations, poster exchanges, and visits to practice, including 16 oral reports, 31 posters, and 47 abstracts, covering the frontiers and applications of energy science and technology, including renewable energy, energy storage, CO2 capture, hydrogen energy, and other fields, as well as integrated energy system and energy policy analysis. Experts and professors from the four universities commented on each wonderful report, and finally selected 4 excellent oral presentations and 4 excellent posters for awards.
At the closing ceremony, Professor Yu Zitao of Zhejiang University made a concluding speech, congratulating the successful holding of the symposium and thanking the representatives of the participants and the four universities for their contributions. Prof. Hye-Young Jang, Dean of the Institute of Energy Systems, Ajou University, Korea, delivered a speech at the flag presentation ceremony, paying tribute to the hard work of the organizing team of this symposium and inviting everyone to gather in Korea for the next symposium. The closing ceremony was presided over by Professor Zhang Shihan of Zhejiang University of Technology.
Since 2017, the China-Japan-Korea Doctoral Symposium on Energy Science and Technology has been held annually by universities in China, Japan and South Korea, aiming to provide a platform for researchers in the field of energy science and technology and promote friendly exchanges and academic exchanges and cooperation between universities in the three countries. During the seminar, the guests and representatives also visited the History Museum of Zhejiang University of Technology, the cricket venue of the 2023 Hangzhou Asian Games and the Green Energy Experience Center of Hangzhou Gas Group. In addition, the Institute of Carbon Neutrality of Zhejiang University and the Institute of Energy and Sustainable Development of Zhejiang University of Technology signed memorandums of cooperation with the Institute of Advanced Energy of Kyoto University in Japan and the Institute of Energy Systems of Ajou University in South Korea, respectively.
