Project of¡°Producing Multilevel High-grad Liquid Fuel through Biomass Thermal Chemical Directional Conversion¡± Won the First Prize of the Annual Higher Education Natural Science Award

Recently, Ministry of Education, Science and Technology Development Center officially announced the 2016 annual outstanding achievements in scientific research. The project - Producing Multilevel High-grad Liquid Fuel by Biomass Thermal Chemical Directional Conversion, completed by Prof. Wang Shurong, Prof. Zhou Jinsong and Academician Cen Kefa of College of Energy Engineering won the first prize of the annual Higher Education Natural Science Award.
Biomass is a carbon-containing renewable resource which can be used for producing liquid fuel. And producing liquid fuel by the thermochemical conversion is cutting-edge technology and research hotspot. While the complex components pyrolysis mechanism of the biomass and the liquid products and the quality control mechanism are long-standing theoretical problems in this field. This project aimed to carry out the related basic research. Through experimental study coupled with density functional theory, the theoretical system of thermal decomposition of the biomass components was improved; the source control mechanism of the target product was revealed; a new method is proposed for the classification of bio oil, and the transformation mechanism of oxygen functional groups is expounded. In this project, the theoretical system of biomass thermochemical directional conversion into multilevel high grade liquid fuel is constructed, which is at the international leading level on this area.
